초록

? 경계선 지능 청소년은 서울 청소년 인구의 약 13.6%를 차지하는 집단으로 평균지
능 보다 낮은 지적 기능 수준을 보이나 지적장애 기준에는 부합하지 않아 그동안
제도적 지원에서 소외되어왔음. 선행연구들을 통해 경계선 지능 청소년의 학업 영
역에서의 어려움을 비롯한 다양한 영역에서 어려움이 지속적으로 보고되고 있음에
도 불구하고 이들을 지원하기 위한 정책적·제도적 기반은 미비한 수준임
? 경계선 지능 청소년이 가지는 인지적 취약성은 건강한 성인으로의 발달을 저해함
은 물론 다양한 사회·심리적 문제를 야기할 수 있음. 그러나 경계선 지능에 대한
보다 명확한 개념 정의와 진단을 통해 지원이 제공된다면, 이들이 보이는 문제를
예방하여 성공적인 발달을 지원할 수 있는 특성 또한 가짐
? 우리나라의 경우 학계 및 관련 기관 등에서 경계선 지능과 관련된 일부 연구를
진행해 왔으나, 연구의 결과가 개념 및 특성 파악 또는 치료방법과 같은 제한된
주제와 영역의 범위에서 연구가 이루어져 왔다는 한계를 가짐. 경계선 지능 청소
년을 조기에 진단하고 개인의 독특한 요구에 맞는 지원을 제공하기 위해서는 이들
의 생애주기별 요구와 기존 정책 및 지원서비스의 현황 파악을 바탕으로 지원 정
책 추진을 위한 방향성을 설정하는 체계적인 고찰이 요구됨
? 이에 본 연구진은 경계선 지능 청소년을 비롯한 학부모, 교사, 유관 기관 종사자
들을 대상으로 하는 포괄적 연구를 수행하여 경계선 지능 청소년의 특성에 따른
종합적인 지원 방안에 대한 시사점을 도출하고자 함. 또한 이러한 연구 결과는 향
후 정책적 제도적 체계 마련을 위한 기초 자료를 제공할 수 있을 것이라 기대함
