Well, I’d like to tell you more about Seoul, as well as JEC Asia, and Seoul’s meetings industry. ＃4 Good afternoon (or good morning) ladies and gentlemen, I am Young Tae Joo, the Director General of the Seoul Metropolitan Government Tourism and Sports Bureau. First of all, I am very honored to stand here in front of you to talk about the beauty of Seoul, the final destination of the JEC Asia event. I would also like to thank you all for coming here today and making time out of your busy schedules. Finally, I would like to thank the CEO of JEC Group, who made this great opportunity possible. ＃5 Located in the heart of Northeast Asia, Seoul is the capital of South Korea. Its total size is around 605㎢, which is 6 times bigger than Paris. It is also a Northeast Asian Mega City ？ these are cities with a population of around 10 million. ＃6 So, before I start my presentation, I would like to ask you a question. What comes to mind when you think of Seoul? The Seoul story goes back in time about 2,000 years. This has given it a rich history. Today, it is a place where old traditions and modern trends live together. This diversity has helped to make it one of the world’s best tourism and MICE destinations. Recently, Seoul took a great step toward peace in our divided country as well. ＃7 As you can see, Seoul is already seen as a top travel and MICE destination by many organizations and institutes from around the world. These include Lonely Planet and MasterCard, which now ranks it in 7th place for travel. ＃8 There are many long-term awards for Seoul. It was noticed as Business Traveler’s ‘Best International Business Meetings Destination for 6 years in a row. Global Traveler chose it as their best MICE City for 4 years in a row. ＃9 Meanwhile, Seoul has been a World Top 3 Convention City for the past 3 years, according to the Union of International Associations. ＃10 Between 2008 and 2016, JEC Asia was held in Singapore. In 2017, it came to Seoul with the support of the Seoul Metropolitan Government. Since then, Seoul has been giving the event plenty of support to make it even greater. As a result, JEC Asia has grown into a major international event. In the past 2 years, over 230 corporations from 50 countries have participated. We now plan to help make it even bigger. ＃11 Now I’d like to talk some more about Seoul and the many things it offers as a MICE destination. These include accessibility, strong MICE facilities and great sightseeing options. ＃12 Most people begin their journey to Korea at Incheon International Airport. For the past 12 years, it has won awards from Airports Council International. There are many reasons for this ？ a big one is smooth passport control systems and baggage customs processes so that visitors can cut their transit time. ＃13 Seoul is well known as a super accessible hub of Northeast Asia. Currently, around 90 airlines from 188 cities in 59 countries connect Seoul with the world. ＃14 The Seoul subway is the 4th-largest in the world. It carries an average of 7,000,000 people per day, with 300km of lines. Even TripAdvisor said ‘riding the Seoul subway’ is one of the things everyone should do in Korea because it is not only convenient but also clean. ＃15 ＃16 Now let’s talk about the host venue for JEC Asia. Coex is Korea’s largest convention center and located in the Gangnam district. Unlike some major cities whose convention centers are far from the downtown area, Coex is right at the heart of the action. It also puts you within walking distance of great shopping, tourism, and accommodation options. I encourage everyone here to put this convenience to good use! ＃17 I mentioned accommodation just now, which is another of Seoul’s strengths. According to research done in 2018, Seoul offers 53,000 rooms in 399 hotels. There are also 25 5-star hotels with 1,000 rooms. The Coex area contains 27 of these hotels, so you can stay nice and close to your event. ＃18 Some of Seoul’s best MICE infrastructure is in their unique venues. There are 68 unique venues where you can enjoy both traditional aspects like Samcheonggak and the natural environment such as Sevit Island. ＃19 Samcheonggak was built in a traditional Korean architecture style for the 1972 inter-Korean summit. It is a traditional cultural art complex where you can feel various aspects of Korea, take in the beautiful landscape of Bukhansan Mountain, and experience hanok Korean homes, hansik Korean food, and more. ＃20 Sevit Island is a building complex that actually sits on and floats in the city’s famous Hangang River. At this place, you can enjoy the fantastic night views of the Hangang River as it flows through Seoul. ＃21 This is a picture of the Dongdaemun Design Plaza, which was designed by world famous architect Zaha Hadid. This creatively shaped building is famous for its unique and extraordinary appearance, and has an exterior made up of forty-five thousand curved aluminium panels. ＃22 Seoul continues to put effort in developing its MICE infrastructure. The Jamsil Sport Complex area, venue of the 1988 Seoul Olympic Games, will soon be equipped with various cultural facilities like international convention facilities, sports center, entertainment halls and more. It will become a world’s first MICE complex space where nature, economic vitality of the city, sports, hallyu, and public transportation all come together. With its development, we are looking forward to seeing Seoul become an even bigger international attraction to the world. ＃23 Now, it is time to introduce some of the many things you can enjoy in Seoul. Let’s watch a video together. ＃24 ＃25 Seoul is focused on nurturing its MICE industry as a key future engine of growth. ＃26 Seoul is currently supporting organizers preparing international events in Seoul. Support can be up to two hundred twenty thousand US dollars and at several stages of event preparation, such as the bidding phase, promotion of the event, hosting of the event, and so on. Also, financial support can be used for venue rentals, banquet expenses and more. ＃27 For corporate meetings and incentive groups staying more than 2 nights in Seoul for a total of 100 room nights, we are providing support for tour expenses and accommodation expenses. Depending on the scale of the event, this support can be up to a maximum of two hundred thousand USD per group. ＃28 For events that have run over 3 times, we are offering various financial and administrative support programs such as financial support for promotion of the event, attracting buyers, event expenses, and buyer tours. We hope that some of these many excellent exhibitions in France will one day make the jump to the Asia Pacific Region by hosting them in Seoul. The city looks forward to actively supporting these events so that their business in Asia may flourish.？ ＃29 In addition to all of this, we have other programs together with our local hotels, venues, banquet spaces, travel agencies, and more ？ all designed to welcome MICE visitors and corporations coming to Seoul. ＃30 This is the end of my presentation.
