This study was performed to examine and evaluate the formaldehyde content and
pH of panty liners. Formaldehyde, one of the VOCs, is a colorless gas and its aqueous
solution is called formalin. For this study, Twenty-four commercial panty liners were
purchased from Seoul. We analyzed their contents by using a high performance liquid
chromatography(HPLC) system consisting of a diode array detector monitoring at 415nm,
C18 column, and solvent system of acetonitrile/water. The analytical method was
validated to evaluate its linearity, limit of detection(LOD) and limit of quantification
(LOQ). The limit of detection(LOD) and limit of quantification(LOQ) values were 0.006
g/mL and 0.017g/mL, respectively, with the coefficient of calibration correlation(R2)
as 0.9998. Under this analysis condition, formaldehyde content ranged from 0.030 to
0.160g/mL and pH was measured at 5.43∼7.32.
